Arizona's vehicle emissions testing program applies to vehicles registered in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. Many Prescott-area drivers are not required to test at all, but plenty of our customers own a second vehicle registered down the hill, drive a work truck that is based in the valley, or are buying or selling a vehicle that has to pass.
In every one of those cases, the shop's job is the same: find out why the vehicle failed and fix it. A failure report tells you which part of the test the vehicle did not pass, and that is a diagnostic starting point, not a parts list.
What we handle
Failed test diagnosis
Bring us the failure report. We use it as a starting point and test the system it points to before quoting a repair.
Check engine light repair
An illuminated check engine light is an automatic failure on OBD-based testing, so the code has to be diagnosed and repaired properly, not just cleared.
Readiness monitors
Clearing codes resets the monitors, and a vehicle with incomplete monitors will be rejected. We advise on the drive cycle needed so you are not making a second trip for nothing.
Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor faults
These are the expensive ones, which is exactly why we verify the failure with testing rather than replacing a converter on the strength of a code.

What is not included
- Performing the official state emissions test itself, which is done at state-authorized stations
- Any form of emissions-defeat, delete or tampering work
What affects the price
We do not publish flat prices, because quoting a repair before diagnosing it is how people get surprised on the invoice. These are the factors that move the number on this type of job:
- Which part of the test the vehicle failed
- Whether the fault is a sensor, a leak, or a genuine catalytic converter failure
- How many separate faults are present at once
- Parts cost, which varies enormously between an oxygen sensor and a converter
