The classic tune-up disappeared with carburetors, but the complaints it used to fix are still here: rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, a misfire at highway speed, hard starting and fuel economy that quietly got worse. On a modern engine, those symptoms come from ignition components, fuel delivery, airflow or a sensor reporting the wrong value.
Our approach is to find which one it is. Sometimes the answer is genuinely a set of spark plugs and a filter. Sometimes it is a leaking intake gasket, a failing coil, carbon on the valves or a fuel pump losing pressure, and no amount of new spark plugs will fix that.
What we handle
Misfires and rough idle
Cylinder-specific testing tells us whether the miss is spark, fuel or mechanical before anything is replaced.
Spark plugs, coils and ignition components
Replaced at the correct interval and with the correct part specification, including the gap and heat range the engine requires.
Fuel delivery and airflow
Fuel pressure, injector performance, air filter condition, intake leaks and throttle body condition all change how the engine runs.
Fuel economy complaints
A gradual drop in miles per gallon usually has a cause you can measure, a lazy oxygen sensor, dragging brakes, low tire pressure or a thermostat stuck open.
What is included
- Road test or symptom verification before work is quoted
- Ignition, fuel and airflow testing appropriate to the complaint
- Replacement of the components the testing identifies
- Verification road test after the work is completed
What is not included
- Performance chip tuning and power modifications
- Emissions-defeat or delete work of any kind
What affects the price
We do not publish flat prices, because quoting a repair before diagnosing it is how people get surprised on the invoice. These are the factors that move the number on this type of job:
- Engine layout, rear plugs on a transverse V6 take far longer than an inline four
- Whether coils, wires or other ignition components have also failed
- Whether the root cause turns out to be mechanical rather than a maintenance item
- Parts specification, as some engines require specific iridium or platinum plugs
How the job runs
- 1
Describe how it runs
When it misfires, whether it is cold or warm, at idle or under load, and whether a light is on.
- 2
Test before replacing
Ignition and fuel testing to identify the actual cause of the complaint.
- 3
Quote the work
We tell you what the engine needs and what it costs before starting.
- 4
Perform and verify
Work completed, then road tested to confirm the complaint is resolved.
